| Soldiers Series 2004-2008 and aftermath: A New York Times book review of April 4, 2004, caught my eye: In the Company of Soldiers by Rick Atkinson, a reporter with the troops in Iraq, who found that the biggest what-ifs were the what-afters. I was a soldier in the army in World War II. I was taken with the photograph of Maj. Gen. David H. Petraeus, then commander of the 101st Airborne Division in Iraq, and his question, “Tell me how this ends?” I began my Soldiers series, haunted by the past and the future, and the General’s question. The first painting was called Petraeus, showing a gun and a wing, and the General. My main focus, as always, was paint. In 2009, I moved into portraits, colorful abstract pastels with stripes, and lollipops. Like the new day, it is a relief. My search continues.
